About Us

My name is Iona Hughes; I am a registered midwife with extensive experience in both the NHS and private sectors. I qualified with a 1st BSc Hons in Midwifery with a distinction awarded by Professor Robert Winston at Sheffield Hallam University. I have spent the majority of my career working in central London. I have now moved back home to the North East where I continue my practice.

I am the proud owner of Window to the Womb & FirstScan which is a private diagnostic baby clinic providing reassurance to mothers and families from 6 weeks to 40 weeks.

My interests are in promoting normality, health and psychosocial aspects of maternity care, infant feeding, Tongue Tie division, health inequalities, complex care pathways and obstetric and neonatal emergencies.

My philosophy is that with improved, reliable, more holistic and client-led care, your experience is more likely to be a positive one.  My approach is to encourage you to be fully informed and in control. If, at whatever stage of your journey into motherhood you feel you would like support, you will find my service geared entirely to focusing on you and your family, ensuring as much as possible your ownership of your feeding. I aim to offer full support to help you to breastfeed or bottle-feed successfully by supporting the needs of both Mother and Baby.
